Return to Sport

Return to sport after ACL reconstruction is only possible once you have completed your physiotherapy and proprioceptive retraining programmes.

Straight line running is usually possible at 3 months and playing sport non-competitively or training is possible at 6 months. Before you return to competitive sport (9- 12 months after your surgery) I will need to check your knee to see that you have adequate muscle bulk, movement and control of your leg. Return to sport before the brain has had a chance to connect back to knee gives very high re-injury rates and ACL re-tear rates. If you complete the rehabilitation programme properly it is highly likely you will return to your desired level of sport.
